Long Live Electro-Pop!
Over the last year, my music tastes have changed a LOT. I went from being mostly a fan of lighter pop fare like Sarah Slean, Brandi Carlile, Serena Ryder, Jason Mraz, Tegan and Sara, etc, etc, etc to suddenly becoming obsessed with electro-pop music. Dragonette and Lady GaGa at the forefront of this at the end of last year. This year, more have popped up. Songs from Robyn, Guetta, Usher, Black Eyed Peas and others I’ve been listening to more and more. I’m all about the upbeat song now.
What I’m finding really odd is my current fascination with Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne. Now, previously I really didn’t like Lil Wayne at all but that changed when I heard a track from his then-upcoming rock-influenced record called Hot Revolver. Since then, songs that feature Lil Wayne have been off the hook! Down by Jay Sean, Revolver by Madonna, No Love by Eminem and most recently his own newest single I’m Not Human. I’m considering getting his album that just hit stores. We’ll see.
An album I will most likely pick up is Pink Friday by Nicki Minaj which hits stores November 22, 2010. I had been seeing her name everywhere earlier this year and it seemed like she was struggling to make herself known but then suddenly, she was popping up in hit songs everywhere. I love her rapping style when she’s featured on other songs like WooHoo by Christina Aguilera and Check It Out with Will.i.Am but her track Your Love, which samples No More “I Love You’s” by Annie Lennox I think is the one that’s converted me. I think 2011 is the year of Nicki.
