This past weekend, Adam and I hosted our very first martini party. Following several gatherings we’ve had since moving to the Stanley Place house last year, this was the first one that actually required a lot of prep work. The most important thing was getting the martini glasses but it also lead to a lot of secondary items we needed too including cocktail picks, shot glasses, cocktail shakers and of course, different types of alcohol. This particular event was essentially a potluck for drinks where everyone was to bring a different type of liqueur that could contribute to a exponentially grown list of martini and cocktail recipes with the addition of each type.
The idea to have a martini party was inspired by a playlist of songs I put on my iTunes last year that consisted of mostly ambient, electronic, trip-hop type songs by Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead, Zero 7 and many others. The type of music you’d hear in an upscale martini bar. I figured this type of music would be the perfect audio setting for such an event. The rest kind of fell into place such as with coloured light bulbs. The only thing really missing was an actual bar and perhaps more suitable furniture. Otherwise, I think it went off pretty well and hopefully could be the start of some fun, more creative events.
Below are a few pictures from the evening.
