Best Songs of 2012

These songs are my picks for the best of what 2012 had to offer on an individual songs basis. Using what I value in the music I listen to, this is a compilation of the songs that I either listened to the most this year, most enjoyed and/or was most impressed by. Many of the songs I selected for this list had qualities that stood out to me either through production and presentation, the lyrics, or just how darned irresistibly catchy they were, and there were a lot of them. Unlike most other years, I didn’t have a single clear favourite song as there were several that I loved and considered as this year’s best. Take a look!

  • Probz has something to do with how Katy Perry was awful this year. But that’s just me.

I’ve only heard 12/50 of these songs. Like every year, I only know a fraction of what you list. Haha. And I’m surprised I haven’t heard a few…

Curious, though, about “Call Me Maybe” being so high. Did you genuinely find it catchy? Or were you impressed with how well it did?

    • I did! I think Call Me Maybe is the perfect pop song. It’s simply and catchy without using things like trends or sex appeal. That and it was the type of song that EVERYONE was singing or humming when it first came out. One of those rare songs that people aren’t afraid to admit they liked and the popularity that followed online was pure genius. I loved the memes that were inspired by the song and the YouTube videos.

Frankly, I think people that say they never liked this song are liars. 95% of people loved Call Me Maybe, 5% lie about it.

      • Yeah, understandable. I suppose it’s sort of a guilty pleasure song (although I am, more and more, coming closer to the idea that there’s no such thing as a “guilty pleasure”). I found it catchy/entertaining at first, but I really did start to grow tired of hearing it all the time. Not an issue with the song or Carly-Rae.

  • No Katy Perry? I sang Wide Awake so many times and no Broken hearted , I forget who sings that …oh right Karmin. Love love love Slut Like you!!!
