Boost or Mute

July 23, 2015 – This week’s ups and downs in pop culture.

boost Miley returning to VMAs | She ruled the VMAs in 2013 for her performance with Robin Thicke and now she’s coming back as host. Miley Cyrus hasn’t had any new music since 2013’s Bangerz but she hasn’t strayed too far from the public eye – always being Miley!

mute Nicki vs. Taylor vs. Katy | Nicki was angry Anaconda didn’t get a Best Video nomination for the VMAs, claiming “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.” Taylor assumed Nicki’s tweet was directed @ her, being the only other woman nominated this year for that category, and responded defensively, saying “It’s unlike you to pit women against each other.” Katy, of course, took this opportunity to subtly (and confusingly?) call out Taylor’s hypocritical ways when she said “Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…” – likely meaning she finds it ironic that Taylor promotes women sticking up for other women while her current hit and video is a take-down of her.
In the end, Taylor apologizes, Nicki accepts, Katy sits back while everyone ponders her tweet @ Taylor and Miley gets out unscathed. Wasn’t she the original subject of Nicki’s ‘vid of the year’ celebrating “women with very slim bodies” tweet? #wreckingball

mute Meek vs. Drake | While everyone was fawning over that Twitterfight, Nicki’s boyfriend Meek Mills came out with accusations that Drake doesn’t write his own rhymes. With little to back up that claim, everyone moved on.

boost Freeheld movie trailer | Just yesterday I was wondering where Ellen Page was and out today comes a trailer for a new movie she’s starring in with Julianne Moore. Just watch the trailer and you’ll see it has all the ingredients of a fantastic, emotional rollercoaster, tear-jerker.
