Boost or Mute
Lots of things in pop culture to talk about this week – none of which involve this week’s MTV VMAs.
Taylor Swift’s smelly cats | Lisa Kudrow (as Pheobe Buffay) schooled Taylor Swift on how to “feel the lyrics” at last night’s 1989 tour stop as she joined her on stage for Smelly Cat, Pheobe’s signature song from Friends. Lisa is the latest to join Taylor on stage for this tour, which saw special guests at nearly every stop. This week alone she was joined by Alanis Morissette, Natalie Maines and Ellen Degeneres.
Counting down to AHS | As details of Lady Gaga‘s role on American Horror Story get revealed, it seems Countess will be the first major step in her grand return as she graces the cover of Entertainment Weekly in time for the show’s premiere October 7. Once again, all eyes are on her.
No More Direction | A hiatus is inevitable at this point if we stick to boyband legend, but consider that One Direction‘s popularity has (or will) slightly outlast both ‘N Sync and the Backstreet Boys if you consider their first album dropped in the fall of 2011 and their fifth is due out this year – covering over five years as one of the biggest music acts in the world. The BSB reign covered 1997-2000 before their popularity tanked while ‘N Sync 1997-2001 before their own announced-hiatus. Next up: will Harry be more of a Robbie Williams, Nick Carter or Justin Timberlake?
Jennifer + Amy = Jennimy? | The universe really wants Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer to do things and work together. Apparently now they’re writing a screenplay together and will both star in it. Ok!
