What does it say about us when one of the best pop albums of all time (that’s right. I said it.) can get grossly ignored and those of us aware of its existence knew it would happen? That an EP made up of songs cut from the album’s final tracklist can still deliver on nearly an equal level of quality as its parent album – the same album largely ignored by an audience that craves this exact music. Uber catchy, 80s-inspired bops filled with hooks, beats and lots of emotion, while still sounding fun and leaving a lasting impression on anyone lucky enough to hear it. Are our standards for pop music so low we believe we don’t deserve this?
It’s true. We don’t deserve songs this good if the general treatment is dismissal. With Emotion: Side B, we’re given the opportunity to spoil ourselves with a second batch from one of the best pop records of all time. We need to better our standards and let ourselves be embraced by this delicious, guilt-free ear candy. Go to whatever store you get your music from. We might not be worthy, but when presented with a golden platter, we don’t pass.
