Max Speak

The Killers score themselves another Top 10 single this week as the third release from Sam's Town moves 11-8* to becoming the highest of the three releases. Read My Mind passes the previous hit Bones (#9) and the album's first single When You Were Young (#10). They still have a ways to go before they can, at most, tie their highest charting and thus far biggest hit, the #1 song (and #1 of 2005) Mr. Brightside. It should be noted as well that All These Things That I've Done ended at #34 the week before The Max went on hiatus but it is a sure bet that that single would have been a big Top 10 hit as well.

The Basement Jaxx make a double exit this week as both of their former Top 10 Platinum singles fall off the Top 40 but they do have a new entry as well. Hey U leaps 72-40* to become the duo's fourth Top 40 single. The song also features Swedish singer Robyn, who hasn't had a hit since early 1998, just before The Max's debut. Therefore, this is technically her first chart hit.

This week, KT Tunstall spends a second week on the chart with two songs that have charted for 52 consecutive weeks. A song that can last a year or longer on The Max chart is a chart oddity, although not quite a rarity. This week's chart contains two songs that have charted for a full year and both belong to KT. Suddenly I See (90-98) spends its 53rd week in The Max while KT's first hit single Black Horse And The Cherry Tree 59-66 remains in the Top 100 for a 62nd week. While that's a long time for a song to be on the chart, it is still only third place; second only to Before You by Chantal Kreviazuk (69 weeks) and You And I Both by Jason Mraz (74 weeks). It is notable to mention that both of those songs had odd chart runs themselves, each showing the yo-yo effect. Chantal's run was separated by falling off the chart and Jason's hit peaked at #2, fell down and rose back up to #2. KT has the novelty of debuting at #1 and very slowly working her way down.

Speaking of Jason Mraz, he gets his seventh Top 40 hit this week as The Beauty In Ugly has the week's biggest mover title and jumps 54-chart positions to #31. Jason's past chart experience includes three #1s, five Top 3 singles and the aforementioned longest running chart hit in The Max history.
