Complicated
When you hear that Avril Lavigne is a young new singer, you probably didn't know she was in her teens. I didn't, anyway. She's actually 17 years old and has her own attitude. The Ontario native is catching ears with her new single Complicated which is getting airplay all over North America and looks to be a big hit. It deserves to be. The song is catchy while staying on the respectable side of music. A great pop song with a rock tint and a great voice that is distinguishable yet average. Avril could be this year's Nelly Furtado!

Sk8er Boi
This song is wrong for so many reasons. First of all, Avril doesn't want to be put in the same bubblegum catorgory as Britney Spears and the like but look at the way the title of this song is spelt? This song is pure bubblegum! It tells a nice story and all but her CD has much better songs than this one. This was the second worst choice for a single. Oy! Avril!

Don't Tell Me
Avril is coming back again... despite not straying far from the scene. This song is fairly typical as far as music and lyrics go but because it's Avril, I can't help but like it. She's like the chocolate remedy for my sweet tooth and as a result, I'm almost tempted to give this one a 10. I'm highly looking forward to her CD and hope that, although I LOVE Let Go, that it's different from it. This song doesn't give me an indication of that since it's pretty much I'm With You + Losing Grip. But my explanation for that satisfies me until I actually hear the rest of the CD. Until then, Don't Tell Me will cure my sweet tooth temperarily.

Nobody's Home
I don't know what it is about this song that really makes it hit hard. Maybe it's the chorus or the bridge or the guitar but this is definately Avril at her best. If I knew someone that never heard of Avril Lavigne before and I wanted to convince them that she actually is a great artist, I'd use this song to do it. I'm not sure if she can ever top this particular track but it's certainly a good goal for her next album.

Avril Lavigne made a modest impact on The Max chart with the singles from her first album Let Go. I'm With You hit #2 and Losing Grip spent over a year on the chart without ever entering the Top 15. However, it was the release of Don't Tell Me that pushed Avril into the higher rankings of The Max artists. That singles was the first of her four #1s and while Fall To Pieces' weeks on ranking may be low, don't let it mislead you as its weeks were cut off during the 2005 chart hiatus. It would have been a huge hit. Avril's third CD due out in 2007 is sure to continue her chart success.
