| reviews |
Although not an official release, I had to review it. I have the mp3 of a live version of this song and Chantal performed it on MuchMusic's special charitable show for the WTC attacks. I have quite a few Chantal live songs and most of them are slow songs that took more than a few listens for me to love them but this song took me only one listen and I was hooked. It was actually written for her close cousin who passed away earlier this year and she performed it at her concert I was at. The lyrics touch you and give you the shivers and the piano works well with the tune of the song. I'm hoping this is on an upcoming CD. "I never believed we'd ever live to see an angel being born and flying home". A09/29/01
All I Can DoBrand new single from Chantal Kreviazuk. Her first time back to radio since the singles from her 2002 album What If It All Means Something. Upon first listen to the new song, I wasn't overly impressed. It seems her time away from recording her own songs but collaborating with Avril, Gwen, Kelly and other lesser known pop singers may have had a slight influence on her. This song still contains your expected dose of piano and the typical beat that comes with a mid-tempo Chantal song but the chorus just seems to be mediocre. As far as her singles go, this is probably near the bottom of the scale in comparison to greats like Surrounded, Wayne, Souls, Time or Before You. Honestly, if it were someone else, I probably wouldn't give much notice. B07/04/06
WonderfulThis is the song that will make up for All I Can Do's lack of great-chart-performance for The Max. While this song doesn't really stand out or make itself overly noticed, it is a nice pop song from Chantal's Ghost Stories album and the chorus is friendlier and, I would think, less potentially-obnoxious than that of All I Can Do. While her album has some wonderful gems on it, this song is the most radio-friendly and thus an obvious choice to release as the second single. I'd say it's the Time of this album and should do fairly well. A10/24/06
Ghosts Of YouChantal's third single from her Ghost Stories album is the first track from the disc. It opens with a stringed quartet before the piano, bass and drums kick in but you know the strings aren't over yet. The song was originally written for Gwen Stefani's LAMB CD but it didn't make it in time so Chantal redid it to suit her own needs and suit her it does. This song, complete with strings, could be among the best she's done. It's a song about memories of her cousin who'd passed away, and of whom she has writtensongs about before (re: 2002's Flying Home from her last CD). A predictable choice for the third single from her album but it really does work for her and if justice is served, this song will continue Chantal's reign as Canada's top piano songstress - with added strings.A03/24/07
| history |
Chantal stormed into the music scene in late 1996 with her debut single God Made Me. Her first three releases came out before The Max existed but her fourth and fifth from the album Under These Rocks And Stones made it and were both #1 hits. That was the beginning of a chart career that as of today, is bigger than any other artist in the history of The Max. Chantal has broken pretty much every record of importance. Her single Before You was at one time the longest running song on the chart for a record 69 weeks. She had six #1 singles back-to-back from 1999 to 2002. Combining her hits together gives her over 400 chart weeks. And she's spent a combined total of over one year at #1 on The Max Chart with her record of ten #1 hits. Her legacy continues with the release of her fourth album Ghost Stories and the album's first single All I Can Do.
