| reviews |
This is the 8th release from the Fly CD so as expected, it will get lost in the shuffle of released songs. Now songs that stand out on this CD are the ones that aren't released because they are outnumbered by what you hear on country radio or The Max chart. This song is suitable for country music fans which I consider myself to an extent. This isn't as standoutable as any of their previous releases from this CD but it's a nice country song that would be played during a Saturday night on the way home from some family event or something. This won't be noticed by many people unless they're a huge country music fan, like the Dixie Chicks or force themselves to know and love this song. C09/22/01
Long Time GoneThe Chicks haven't had a new release since 1999's Fly, which featured some big hits like Goodbye Earl and Without You, but now they're back with a new CD called Home and its first release Long Time Gone. Compared to their previous released singles, this is their most countristic song. With the signature Dixie sound of banjo's, fiddles, and Natalie's vocals, that would be enough to make it a great song. It touches on related country genres of bluegrass and it's not overproduced. Great track!A08/3/02
Voice Inside My HeadThis new song from the Dixie Chicks is probably the first track I would really consider to be as distant from country as they have been so far. Even Not Ready To Make Nice I considered to be somewhat country but this song, to me, isn't country. It's rock the way Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge did it and it's awesome! The sitar heard throughout is really cool too! Natalie's vocals are top notch. There's no downtime at all. The song makes me reflect on whether where I am now is where I should be or if somewhere along the line I made a wrong choice and if the right choice was better. Any song that can do that for me is amazing. Natalie strikes the feelings and the chords that the song was meant to hit. A07/04/06
The NeighborThe first verse of this song strikes me as odd coming from the Dixie Chicks. Natalie seems quite weak in it and for some reason, it just sounds awkward. It's definately a good track but I don't think it would have fit in on the Taking The Long Way album. It has a good southern rock/country sound to it that would make it sound at home on a classic rock station but it works more as background music than as the lyrical artists that the Chicks have based themselves around over the last year.C03/24/07
| history |
The Dixie Chicks are among the premiere country artists on The Max chart. I was hesitant to allow country songs on but I really did like There's Your Trouble so that was the beginning of their chart career that so far includes nine Top 10 hits and two #1s. Goodbye Earl was a big hit back in 2000 and six years later, they topped the chart again with the first single from their fourth album with the song Not Ready To Make Nice.
