Never Mind
Remember Jann's classic stuff like Could I Be Your Girl and Good Mother? She hasn't seemed to been able to recreate that success with the CDs Happy and Blood Red Cherry except now when I think about it, The Sound Of really is a great song and I always liked Sleepless. Never Mind doesn't seem to have the typical Jann energy and enjoyment that her previous stuff has had. There's really no hook to this one at all so unless you're a fan of Jann, this won't do much for you

Bring The Boys Home
Would it be going too far to say that this song is Jann's best recording in years? It starts off with a neutral country-tinged guitar and the first verse barely takes any notice but Jann opens up with the chorus as she pleads to bring the boys back. The song adds a touch of personal attachment to the soldiers as if the guys fighting are friends to all of us, and in a sense, they are. The lyrics are pleading a safe return without being preachy or anti-government or anything that we see often in many political and anti-war songs. I don't think Jann is being guilty of being anti-Bush (or anti-Harper) but just simply anti-war. Her voice continues to get stronger as the song continues to the end.

Jann Arden's most successful period came before The Max chart began in 1995 with her hits Could I Be Your Girl and Good Mother along with the rest of the amazing Living Under June album. She has been able to get moderate success with her songs since then and it seems that her charting may be stablizing with the release of her album Uncover Me and the single Bring The Boys Home, which is her second Top 10 single overall.
