No Such Thing

Do you remember Solitude by Edwin McCain? It's from 1996. That's probably the most shivery song ever, at least for me. No Such Thing doesn't quite give me that feeling when listening to its lyrics but it does provide me with thinking about my future and what I'm doing and that life can be more than proms and bubblegum but that times pass and people get older. It's not a memorable song tune-wise for the first couple listens but maybe after a few weeks you'll find yourself singing the song in your head and not even know what it is.A05/18/02

Belief

This track isn't as funky as Waiting On The World To Change but it really does provide some thought provoking lyrics placed over a great laid back bluesy guitar riff. John puts the idea of belief into perspective in everything that we do or think is based around what we believe to be right. When people fight, they are fighting for their own beliefs and in that sense, they're on equal ground. I think the best line in the song is at the end, "What puts the folded flag inside his mother's hand/belief can." I never thought of it like that but it really does make sense. Jason earns another A-grade song with this one. A2/5/07

Gravity

This song immediately starts out as a very slow-tempo track that makes you surprised that it's even a single, however, when the blues guitar kicks in, you realize exactly what type of song it is. It's not quite a pop song nor is it really quite a blues song but it does have the blues style and John delivers it well. This track won't take away any attention from Waiting On The World To Change but in its own right, it is a good song and serves its purpose well, to show the mainstream that John Mayer has more depth than a lot of his peers, since his disc 'Try' wasn't a mainstream-known album.B03/24/07

history

While John Mayer has never had an overwelming chart history, his songs have been known to last for a long period of time. Take, for example, his #40 his Why Georgia. It followed two fairly long charting singles and while most would have forgotten that song, it did last for a staggering 30 weeks on the chart. In fact, it wasn't until his third Top 10 single Waiting On The World To Change that John had a song not hit the 20-week mark, and that may end up being a regret on my part.
