Never Again
It seems that the radio world was watching for the new Kelly Clarkson song and how it would do. Immediately, it got tons of airplay, probably out of anticipation, but quickly things slowed down. The queen of pop radio may have handed over her crown? Maybe, but that doesn't mean her music is suffering. While she keeps hold of some of her old ways she attained from Breakaway (the album), Kelly is moving in a slightly more personal direction by aiming for some credibility beyond what she achieved by breaking free of American Idol and showing off her vocals. My first reaction to this song was "who does she think she is, Alanis Morissette?" Almost. I'd say she's a G-rated Alanis for 2007. Not quite as gripping as You Oughta Know but you can almost feel what Kelly is going through in Never Again.B5/13/07
Kelly Clarkson's relationship with The Max had a rocky start. Her Idol-winning song A Moment Like This spent a single week at #100 in 2002 and her first major smash Miss Independent hit #60. Low was her first real Max hit when it made the Top 40 but it wasn't until the singles from her second album Breakaway that she established herself as a considerable force. Her hit Since U Been Gone experienced two chart runs, both hitting #6 and, despite the hiatus of The Max chart in 2005, Kelly still managed four Top 20 hits. My December, her third CD, should definately continue things for her on the chart.
