Sweet Ones
You know how every now and then I hear a song that I make a huge deal out of for a while? This is one of them. Sarah Slean's major label debut CD Night Bugs and the first single Sweet Ones is a song to look out for. She's a piano player and she has fun in the video to this song. I compare her to Sarah Harmer and they'll probably have similar routes in terms of singles and airplay. Once you hear this song, you'll be hooked. Unless you like to drive nails into your ears. Lucky Me
Sarah's musical skills aren't like many in today's music. I find that she tends to take a "theatrical" approach to what makes her songs. Maybe it's the fact that the videos for 'Sweet Ones' and 'Lucky Me' both feature parts in a theatre but that could also mean that both settings suit her songs. 'Lucky Me' itself sounds like a fun track that would work well to a play involving pirates and beaches and whatnot. She sounds like she's having fun in this song and as a result, it's a fun listen. Nothing too serious but still incorporating real talent in what she makes. A10/05/04
Sarah Slean stormed onto the chart in 2002 with Sweet Ones and spent nearly a year on with that single. In 2003, Weight was her major single and a #1 hit. With the release of Day One, she finally found a place in the hearts of The Max with her crazy lyrical antics and humour yet sad songs. Lucky Me solidified her position on the charts as one of the leading ladies of the 2000s and with her #1 album and three more Top 10s, she continues to prove.
