Big Brother 13: Finale
It's finally done. Just over two months of Big Brother 13 and there is a winner. I was wrong and it wasn't Jordan. Rachel was the winner by just one vote against Porsche (4-3). Jordan was voted off leaving just Porsche, Rachel and Adam.
All in all, it was an entertaining season but definitely wasn't as fun as previous years. I generally don't enjoy having older experienced players playing again for the duration of the show because they aren't doing the same type of learning that new players would be. They know what to do from the get-go and with this season, the alliances made in the beginning were the ones that stuck pretty much for most of the game with few exceptions. Very few players went against the crowd so it was predictable. Even when the show was shaken up a bit, it seemed obvious that it was a ploy to try to make things interesting to no avail.
Looking back, there were twists I enjoyed from past years. Ex-factor was fun. The secret twin twist.. But I like the twist to involve an all new cast of regular people or an all-star cast. I feel like Big Brother 13 didn't have anyone that I personally cheered for to the same degree as precious years. Rachel was an underdog but not one to really feel bad for. The others had little gameplay to make them deserving.
A year until the next one. And still "reality tv" at it's best.
Big Brother 13: One Week Left
As it stands now, there are four remaining players. Rachel, Jordan, Adam and Porsche. Kalia was just voted off and another person will be voted off tomorrow. The current Head-of-Household is Adam, who won his first Power of Veto this week which was also the first thing he won all season. Perhaps it's due to lack of competition but Rachel is a competitive player and Porsche has been as well. Jordan... not so much.
Jordan, while being typically sweet, has done little in the game it seems. It's easy for people to not mistake her for being a "floater" but I realized over the last few weeks that she hasn't actually done much. She won a few competitions but as far as decisions go, she always followed Jeff. So when Jeff was voted off, she was lost. She seemed to lack self-control and became to rely on Rachel afterward who, oddly enough and as much as I hate to admit, has gotten extremely likeable since Brenden was voted off. She's still annoying but she has gotten logical when it comes to the game and definitely tolerable. I would say that of the remaining four, she's the most deserving to win the game.
Of the entire house, I favour Daniele. I think she played the best of anyone else but things got messy the week she was voted off. I think she should get the America's Choice $25,000 prize but I suspect it will go to Jordan or Jeff.
Adam has done pretty much nothing in the game. If he was smart, he would have used his Veto to force Rachel to have to put Jordan up this week and then vote her off. Jordan has done little-to-nothing to get people to hate her other than perhaps Daniele so if she's in the final two, she'll likely get it unless the voters decide not to award her the grand prize for the second time. But alas, Adam has no backbone and is more worried about pleasing the popular vote rather than sticking up for himself.
Just one more week until the finale. I think Adam will nominate Porsche and Rachel and then whoever wins the Veto will either use it or not. Should they use it, it will be one of those two and Jordan and then the person not nominated will vote off the other, which will almost certainly be Porsche unless she wins the Veto, which she HAS to to stay in. Depending on how smart the final three are when it comes to deciding who to take with them to the final two, it could go either way. Adam and Rachel, Adam and Jordan or Rachel and Jordan. (Assuming Porsche is gone). If Rachel or Jordan (assuming they have HoH) conclude that they have a better chance of winning with Adam, they'll vote to keep him (as they should in their best interests). But if they agree to take each other to the final two out of friendship and dedication to each other, as they have been since the beginning, Jordan will almost certainly win.
Big Brother 13: Final 6
Only 6 people remain in the house. Kalia, Rachel, Adam, Porsche, Shelley and Jordan. Tonight, there was a double eviction which had two of the strongest players remaining beforehand voted out, Daniele and Jeff.
The double eviction episode is always exciting, especially the second one of the evening because you have an entire week's worth of events in less than an hour which leaves no time for planning, discussing, over-thinking, anything. It's whatever comes to mind first that shoots out and it's done and over with. Kalia won HoH. She put up Jeff and Rachel and Jeff was gone.
I'm glad Jeff was voted out. He was very arrogant and I definitely think it worked against him and his game. He was angry that nobody else was playing the game and that no one else deserved to be there but Daniele was playing the game, trying to play big moves and he was responsible for her being evicted. It just so happened that her moves weren't in his favour. I think if you choose to play the game by trying to win everything, that makes you a target for other people. Some people would have techniques that had them lie low, save it for more crucial moments. I always imagined myself voting off the players that I had a hard time competing against. I think voting out Jeff was the best move for most of the players in the house. He was hard to beat. It's common sense.
I'm glad Rachel is still there. For pure entertainment value only.
I was expecting Adam or Porsche to be gone since they immediately come to mind if you don't have time to plan a proper nomination ceremony and neither of them are really threatening should anything backfire. But Kalia won and she already had a game-plan and it worked out.
It's hard to say who I think will win overall. Jordan is an obvious choice if she can slide though to the final two but that's a stretch since she only has Rachel. I would think the others smart enough to know that Jordan is more of a threat. Adam may or may not be with them. Hard to say with Jeff gone. He's likely on his own again as far as Jordan and Rachel are concerned. That leaves Kalia, Porsche and Shelley, who I think will form an alliance to bring at least two of them to the final three. I think I'd like to see Kalia and Rachel in the final two because then Kalia may get the votes needed for her to win. But, it can really go either way with no clear winner just yet.
Big Brother 13: So far
So a few weeks into Big Brother 13 and what do we have so far.
Dick walked out in the first week for reasons that I don't quite know yet. I don't know if it was even revealed but I didn't pay much attention. As a result, due to the twist, his game partner (and daughter) Daniele was guaranteed safe to reach the Top 10.
Keith was the first guest voted off. He was one of my players in the Big Brother Pool. He seemed unthreatening but was voted out mostly due to his lack of gaming ability, I think.
Cassi was next out the door. I had her pegged as the one to win the entire game. I think she was a great player who was called out too soon and, from my perspective, was due to a bit of a misunderstanding perhaps. But when Rachel is involved, everything is because of a misunderstanding because of her inability to understand anything.
Finally, Dominic went last week. I don't think he played a good game because he was trying to make new alliances every other day. Not quite a floater but he didn't work with the ones he could have had and tried too hard to be safe. He was screwed over a bit though because he did throw the veto competition for one of his alliances that turned on him anyway.
That brings us up to tonight's show. I was delighted to see Daniele win HoH and put up Brenden and Rachel. I'm betting Rachel spends the next two days crying because of it because, well, she can dish it out but she can't take it. Jordan doesn't take her to the TV screening, she cries and takes it personally. Brenden's an idiot. And Jeff is increasingly annoying. They gang up on other house members and all it strategic gameplan but when someone does it to them, it's personal and it's wrong for it to be personal? Admittedly, all four of them (including Jordan) are strong players so the person to take them out successfully is a winner. I find they all ignore the fact that eventually, they're going to have to turn on each other regardless of what happens now.
100% 150% 1000% 0% They really like numbers in the Big Brother house. Some shows have them throwing around the percentages like they actually mean something. "I understand 100%." "I'm with you 1000%." Only not really.
I'd like to see Shelley, Kalia, Daniele and Rachel as the last four. Why Rachel? Because without her, the remaining three would be boring to watch. As annoying as she is, she makes Big Brother entertaining to watch.
Big Brother 13: The Beginning
Every Summer for the last however many years have involved some Big Brother. Now, I've never been a reality television fan. The only "reality" tv I've watched included a few episodes of Fear Factor and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire or that show with the British lady who says "is that your final answer?" but, well, those are pretty much gameshows.
I watched Big Brother 2, 3 and I think 4. Always forgetting the houseguests of each season prior to the one that I've watched. There was an Ex-factor season with guests whose exes were also invited on the show, among other themes that I don't quite remember. I also remember when there was no Power of Veto. When it was introduced, it was the most "powerful twist" at the time. My, how things have changed.
Except Julie Chen. She hasn't changed except that one year she was preggers.
The show's 13th season began last night with eight original houseguests, coming in for the first time, and 6 returning houseguests, who came back in pairs. For once, no return of Jessie though I wonder if he'll be making an appearance at some point over the next couple of months.
You have Jeff and Jordan, from season 11. Jordan won that season. She's the loveable yet simple (re: special) blonde with the many one-liners that I hope to try to remember a few of because they're hilarious. Jeff is... well liked though I don't really care for him too much.
You have Rachel and Brenden, from season 12. Rachel was THE most annoying person from last year and Brenden was her less-annoying but idiot-by-association boyfriend who announced they had gotten engaged. I can't imagine them going TOO far since Brenden will choose Rachel over strategy in the game and being as hated as she likely will be, he'll go down with her. (unless she gets voted off first in which case he'll do decently).
And finally, returning is Evil Dick and his estranged daughter Daniele. These two are from season 8 and while I'm pretty sure I did watch this season, I really don't remember much from Evil Dick, who is one of the most legendary Big Brother players ever, but I do remember their situation where they hadn't spoken in years until they met in the Big Brother house (and apparently hadn't spoken for three years until inside the house again). Either way, Evil needs to drop the crack. Those craters in his cheeks are nearly deep enough to meet in the middle.
Of the new players, I haven't formed much of an opinion just yet. Shelley struck me as being one of the first to get voted off because she seems to be the type to not make an impression on anyone right away. It seems, unless there's a definitive threat or annoyance from the get-go (ie. Brian, season 10), the quiet ones are voted off as a technicality (ie. that older lady from one of the seasons whose name I don't remember but I really liked!).
I've decided that so far, I think Cassi will be the winner. Based on very little except first impressions. I'm sure this will change in time. I'm thinking it'll be a non-returning houseguest that wins though I bet alliances between some of the returning ones (Jeff, for example) will bring them pretty far.
So I figure I'll keep an ongoing portion of my blog to Big Brother with my thoughts and maybe predictions. It's pretty much the only show of the last five years that I've watched regularly so I'll dedicate this to that. For a quick link, simply bookmark this link as it will lead you to only Big Brother related posts.
P.S: Even the Wikipedia page has spoilers as they happen in real time. I did just learn that the hard way. As I only watch the show as it airs on CBS, I won't be giving away anything that happens beyond what the show airs.
